The day Lea Cross got fired (again), a fugitive goblin literally used her as a human shield. Most people respond to professional setbacks by networking. Lea accidentally becomes a supernatural bounty hunter.

Lea has two degrees, a lifetime of disappointment, and magical abilities that work only slightly better than a broken toaster. Her first real case should be simple: retrieve a hob who skipped a court date over unpaid fines. Instead, she finds him terrified and hiding, convinced whatever he saw is the same thing that's made other witnesses disappear. She promises to protect him. She brings him in.

That night, someone takes him from his jail cell anyway.

Now Lea has to find him before his kidnappers finish the job, all while trying not to embarrass herself in front of Wraith, the dangerously attractive retrieval specialist convinced she's going to get herself killed.

Worse, her new job keeps putting her in the orbit of the man she never quite got over — now successful, respected, and asking exactly the kind of questions that make her wonder how much he already knows.
